12 For 12 Features The Green Mill

Green-mill.jpgOne of Duel’s favorite watering holes, the Green Mill embodies the mystique of Al Capone with modern jazz.  When you enter the Green Mill, it feels like you’ve stepped back in time into a by-gone era.

Originally established as ‘Pop Morse Road House’ or ‘The Mill’ by Irish immigrants in 1907, the lounge quickly developed a reputation for showcasing the era’s top dixieland, bebop, swing and progressive jazz styles.  It was later named ‘The Green Mill’ in the twenties when Chicago mobster Jack “Machine Gun” McGurn bought 50% share in the club.  The Mill would later fall on hard times after the forties until current owner Dave Jennilo purchased the club in 1986, fully restoring it back to its prohibition-era, speakeasy decor.

The bar is a go to for great Jazz but even better late night bar on a weekend (opened until 4am!).

Check out the video below and interview with Dave Jennilo for 12 For 12.
