Man About Town – Your Dueling Weapon For Valentines

Since this weekend is valentines day, we thought it’d be fitting that your dueling weapon will have to be a red drink that embodies sophistication and romanticism, enter Man About Town.  It’s the perfect drink for this valentines weekend.  It falls somewhere between a classic Negroni and a Boulevardier, but fallows a darker brown/reddish tone.  Instead of Campari, it calls for vegetal, bittersweet Cynar. It’s a deep, rich drink, with a punch of rye spice and a lush, bitter finish.

This cocktail from Gramercy Tavern in NYC is a take on a Boulevardier (which is like a Negroni, but with bourbon or rye instead of gin). Here, spicy rye is the star, complemented by the bittersweet Sicilian amaro, Cynar.

INGREDIENTS

• 2 ounces Rye (Read Rittenhouse Vs. Bulleit but any Rye Whiskey will work)
• 1 ounce Cynar
• 1 ounce Sweet Vermouth
• Brandied Cherry

DIRECTIONS

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add rye, Cynar, and sweet vermouth, and stir until very cold, about 15 seconds. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a brandied cherry in the bottom of the glass.
