The fist time I saw someone use Coconut Water in a drink was back in 1998. On a family trip, I watched my dad crack open a coconut, pour out the coconut water, and give the kids the inside to snack on. I asked him why would he set the water aside? With a sly smile, he grabbed a glass, dropped a couple of ice cubes, added Chivas (that’s his favorite) and Coconut Water. I was floored & it was good.
So here’s Dad’s simple recipe for your summer drink.
Rocks Glass – Packed Full of Ice
1 part – Chivas Regal
1 part – Coconut Water (To taste)
Garnish – Coconut bits / Few Mint leaves / Lime
Grab a whiskey glass, pack the glass with ice, add the coconut water (NOTE: My father says “be careful with the water because it could become too sweet and continuously monitor“).
Make sure to get the water from the coconut, it’s tastier and you can eat the coconut once you’ve poured out the water.
For garnish we’ve added a couple of options, but it’s all to taste. The coconut bits can be chopped, or just a straight piece. It doesn’t change the flavor profile too much, so it’s just a tasty garnish/snack. Mint Leaves and/or lime are always great in the summer and provide that “refreshing taste” on a hot day. You can muddle them like a Mojito, but be careful, you can lose the whiskey.
